This vase is made from Sweet Chestnut, sourced from National Trust's Ashridge Estate.
The dark colouring is made by ebonising the wood with a mixture of vinegar and iron, these cause a chemical reaction with the tannin in the chestnut and the result turns the fibres of the wood black.

This wooden vase is approximately 232mm (9 inches) in length and 82mm (3.2 inches) in diameter. This product comes with a removal glass tube to allow for fresh flowers and water which measures 200mm (8 inches) in length 30mm (1.5 inches) in diameter.
