This vase is made from Sweet Chestnut, sourced from National Trust's Ashridge Estate, Herts.
Every Hertswood product comes with a handwritten card containing care instructions and explaining more about the wood and where it came from.
The shading effect on the wood is made by a process called 'ebonising'. I create this effect by rubbing a mixture of vinegar and iron onto the box which causes a chemical reaction with the tannin in the wood, the result turns the wood fibres black.
This wooden vase is approximately 200mm in length and 130mm in diameter (at widest point)
Please note, this wooden vase cannot take water. It is beautiful on it's own or with dried flowers or grasses.
