This bowl is made from Sweet Chestnut from National Trust's Ashridge Estate, Herts.

The dark colouring is made by ebonising the wood with a mixture of vinegar and iron, these cause a chemical reaction with the tannin in the chestnut and the result turns the fibres of the wood black.

The bowl is sealed and finished with food safe oils and Hertswood Wood Goo

Every Hertswood product comes with a handwritten card containing care instructions and explaining more about the wood and where it came from.

This bowl measures approximately 50mm in height and 110mm in diameter.
