This vase is made from Sweet Chestnut, sourced from National Trust's Ashridge Estate, Herts.
The shading effect on the wood is made by a process called 'ebonising'. I create this effect by rubbing a mixture of vinegar and iron onto the box which causes a chemical reaction with the tannin in the wood, the result turns the wood fibres black.
Every Hertswood product comes with a handwritten card containing care instructions and explaining more about the wood and where it came from.
This wooden vase is approximately 140mm in length and 100mm in diameter (at widest point)
This product comes with a removable glass to allow for fresh flowers and water which measures 100mm in length and 40mm in diameter.
